Railay mornings and rain are becoming a given combination. At breakfast, I mention that today I’d like to see some monkeys since I’ve heard about them but they have been elusive.
Mark found us an easy hike to Phra Nang Cave and beach. We don’t know a lot about it but seems like something fun to try.
It’s a short walk past the trail entrance for the Railay View point hike and is supposed to be much, much easier.
We are all discussing how sore we are from yesterday’s hike to Railay’s View point and checking out the people who are newly covered in red clay (worn like a badge of honor) coming down from the climb as we pass it, when we walk right into a group of monkeys!
These cute, furry little guys seem to have no fear of humans and let people get close. Until one guy gets too close and a curious monkey decides to take a souvenir. When the guy tried to get his sunglasses back, the monkeys have a clear, certain message- Not happening.
Most just mind their own business, have a coconut snack, or watch their young explore.
Monkey sighting checked off the list. š They are adorable and remarkable but these are not zoo monkeys, so keep that in mind before you put your face too close or try to take something back from them.
The walk around the limestone walls continues and before we know it, we reach the caves.
Phra Nang cave is a sacred place where fisherman come to give offerings for better fortune with their catch. It also famous for its cave with the Phallus shrine.
We see people rock climbing, which is really popular in this area and something I’d like to try if we have time. But for today, some swimming and beach exploring.
We run into some more friends on the beach and take some time to enjoy the scenery.
A beatiful day! And how better to end it than with a cocktail! (Or several)
